Patient With Migraines Are More Predisposed To Have Depression
Women with headache, especially migraine, are much more likely to suffer from depression, feel exhausted, and have a host of other austere physical symptoms, according to a study published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.
The medical research involved 1040 people who buy citalopram online at headache clinics in five states. Of the women tested, 871 reported occasional headache (less than 15 headaches monthly) and 665 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the people were diagnosed with migraines.
The medical research found woman with chronic headache were four times more prone than those with occasional headache to report symptoms of major Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also five times more predisposed to report a high degree of symptoms linked to headache, pain or problems during intercourse.
Among women tested with severely disabling migraine, the medical investigation found the likelihood of major Atypical Depression increased 32-fold if the people also reported other severe symptoms.
“Painful physical symptoms would stir up or be a manifestation of major Manic Depression in women with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy topamax online and Major Depression may heighten pain perception,” said study author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This relation between migraine and major Depression suggests a usual neurobiology.”
Tietjen says medical study are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Major Depression would be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.
“Careless of what’s causing the relation between migraine and Atypical Depression, psychiatric disease such as Depression complicates headache treatment and can provoke poorer consequence for headache management,” said Tietjen.
The study was helped, in part, by the American Headache Society, which estimates 18 million American people are affected by headache.
The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 17000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to meliorating woman care through instruction and medical study. A neurologist is a osteopath specialized on diagnosing, treating and managing sickness of the brain and nervous system such as blow, Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, Parkinson disorder, and multiple sclerosis.
